For over 100 years, the Girl Scout movement has been changing the lives of girls and improving communities locally and around the world.
As Girl Scouts Heart of the South approaches this monumental landmark, we can look back and see how the foundation of Girl Scouts is ever present in today’s Girl Scout experience. By providing relevant programming for today’s girls, we cultivate leadership through exciting activities that challenge girls to take on new journeys.
Where else can you learn new dance moves, go camping, take care of the planet, develop your leadership skills, contribute to your community, learn business skills, experience art, stay healthy and active, become independent and work together as a team in one place? Girl Scouts Heart of the South prepares girls for their future by focusing on leadership, math, science, technology, healthy living, financial literacy and the arts. We also offer programs through community partnerships.
THE BASICS OF THE GIRL SCOUT TRADITION:
- meet new people and have fun in a troop setting
- discover what interests you
- develop confidence and grow together with other girls and young women
- become independent and gain courage
- contribute to your community
- learn business skills and how to budget and save
- set individual and group goals and connect with others
- earn some of Girl Scouting’s highest honors – Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards
- have access to many leadership opportunities that aren’t available anywhere else
- travel the world!
Girl Scouts Heart of the South covers 59 counties in north Mississippi, west Tennessee, and Crittendon County, Arkansas.
Are you interested in learning a sport, sampling the arts, preparing for a career, or rafting down a river? Do you dream of publishing stories online, traveling to exotic locales, or speaking on behalf of girls in Washington, D.C.? In Girl Scouting, you can do it all! Girls in grades K-12 can join as girl members. It’s never too late to join in the fun.
In Girl Scouts, you discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together. Through a myriad of enriching experiences, such as extraordinary field trips, sports skill-building clinics, community service projects, cultural exchanges, and environmental stewardships, you’ll grow courageous and strong. Girl Scouting helps girls develop their full individual potential; relate to others with increasing understanding, skill, and respect; develop values to guide their actions and provide the foundation for sound decision-making; and contribute to the improvement of society through their abilities, leadership skills, and cooperation with others.
Girl Scout-Levels
Girls can join Girl Scouts at different grade–levels:
- Girl Scout Daisies (Grades K-1)
- Girl Scout Brownies (Grades 2-3)
- Girl Scout Juniors (Grades 4-5)
- Girl Scout Cadettes (Grades 6-8)
- Girl Scout Seniors (Grades 9-10)
- Girl Scout Ambassadors (Grades 11-12)
- Girl Scout Adults (Ages 18 and up)
A girl can be a Girl Scout in many different ways. She can:
- Register individually and get regular updates on council-wide events and opportunities.
- Sign up for Girl Scout Camp. Many Girl Scout councils offer day and resident camping opportunities for girls.
- Join a short-term interest group. Many Girl Scout councils offer four-week to six-month long sessions focusing on careers, engineering, sports, theater, and money management, just to name a few!
- Join a troop/group with a group of girls and a couple of adults in your area.
- Attend a drop-in site at a community or housing center. Many councils partner with community groups and other organizations to provide Girl Scouting to girls on an as-needed basis.
